Apple likes to stick around with each product design refresh for at least a few generations. Take for example the M4 MacBook Pro, which is still carrying the same design language that was first introduced atop the M1 series models back in 2021. Apple is currently working on refreshed MacBook Air and Pro models with M5-series processors. They might, however, stick with the same aesthetic formula as their respective M4-series counterparts. It’s not bad, but not without its flaws either. The one eyesore in the whole experience to me is still the notch in the display. I find it quite…

The next leg of the AI race is on, and has expanded beyond the usual players, such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. In addition to the dominance of the tech giants, more open-source options have now taken to the spotlight with a new focus in the AI arena. Various brands, such as DeepSeek, Alibaba, and Baidu, have demonstrated that AI functions can be developed and executed at a fraction of the cost. They have also navigated securing solid business partnerships and deciding or continuing to provide AI products to consumers as free or low-cost, open source models, while larger…

On Thursday, Amnesty International published a new report detailing attempted hacks against two Serbian journalists, allegedly carried out with NSO Group’s spyware Pegasus.  The two journalists, who work for the Serbia-based Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), received suspicious text messages including a link — basically a phishing attack, according to the nonprofit. In one case, Amnesty said its researchers were able to click on the link in a safe environment and see that it led to a domain that they had previously identified as belonging to NSO Group’s infrastructure. “Amnesty International has spent years tracking NSO Group Pegasus spyware and how…

Amazon announced this week that Jennifer Salke is stepping down as the head of Amazon MGM Studios — a move that could indicate high-level dissatisfaction with the company’s streaming strategy over the past few years. To be clear, Salke’s boss Mike Hopkins (the head of Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video) praised her work in an email to employees and described her departure as one that allows the company to “flatten our leadership structure a bit” — a recurring theme in recent tech company layoffs. In other words, Amazon does not intend to fill Salke’s role. Instead, the heads of…

Tesla Takedown” organizers have promised their biggest day of global action today, encouraging thousands to protest outside Tesla showrooms, dealerships, and even charging stations to peacefully object to Elon Musk’s role in slashing government spending.  As Tesla protests have spread, so has the backlash. Activists holding up signs are being conflated with masked vandals throwing Molotov cocktails. On social media, and in Washington, the distinction is fading fast.  President Donald Trump has called attacks on Tesla “domestic terrorism” and threatened to send “terrorist thugs” to prisons in El Salvador. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has pledged to prosecute “those operating…

Nintendo announced on Friday that its live-action “The Legend of Zelda” movie will premiere on March 26, 2027. It’s a little weird to announce this the day after a Nintendo Direct livestream, where the gaming company usually unloads all of its recent news. But that was intentional. The company wants fans to download its new app, Nintendo Today! — yes, that exclamation is their own doing — to learn the latest news. During Thursday’s Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto closed out the presentation by announcing the Nintendo Today! news app. Those who swiftly downloaded it were rewarded…

For years, the ThinkPad lineup was easy to spot. Every ThinkPad featured the same iconic design, from the red-on-black color scheme to the keyboard design to the TrackPoint nubbin. Then, Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad Z series that altered the design a bit, and now there’s a new model that takes the lineup even further away from tradition. The ThinkPad X9-14 is a brand-new design that looks — and feels — even less like the ThinkPad of yesterday. That’s not a bad thing, because the new laptop has a lot going for it — although it doesn’t quite make it onto…

Samsung has launched additional Bespoke AI appliances for 2025. These join other products in the new lineup revealed earlier this year at CES and KBIS. Regardless of device, each product in this year’s lineup emphasizes three key features: AI-enhanced convenience, better connectivity, and stylish modern designs. The first new smart home product is the Bespoke AI Laundry Vented Combo, which claims to be the industry’s first vented all-in-one washer-dryer. This innovative product eliminates the need to transfer clothes between machines. It features a 7-inch AI Home LCD touchscreen, making it easy to control cycles and settings with a drum capacity…

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has launched on Mac, PC and consoles, and while we gave it something of a mixed grade in our review, I find it a lot more interesting as a Mac gamer than someone else might. What’s notable from a Mac gamer’s perspective is not only that a genuinely AAA game has come to the Mac, but also that it has launched on Mac at the same time as Windows. That doesn’t happen very often, and Mac gamers are used to waiting years before a title makes it to their side of the divide. This changed approach suggests…
