I suspected to see some new handheld gaming PCs this year at CES, but it looks like something even more exciting is in store. AMD and Lenovo are hosting an event during the week of the show, and it’ll have two special guests in attendance: Valve’s Pierre-Loup Griffais and Microsoft’s Jason Ronald. I’ll be attending the event on January 7, about which Sean Hollister over at The Verge initially shared out the details. There are a couple of reasons why this event could be significant. First, Valve. Since the launch of the Asus ROG Ally, there have been a handful…

The Samsung Galaxy S25 “Slim” has been part of the rumor mill for a while now. If you’ve missed it, here’s what you need to know. It almost certainly does exist, and it’s expected to launch sometime during the middle of 2025, instead of next month like the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup. And now, we have a better idea of just how thin this phone might actually be. Well-known tipster Ice Universe shared the information on Weibo, stating that its thickness “may be 6.x mm.” In other words, the leaker isn’t sure of the exact thickness but expects…
The latest batch of new PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game catalog additions was released this week. As a result, PS Plus subscribers have a ton of new options when it comes to what to play as we approach what is many people’s holiday break. Games from this most recent batch are what I’m recommending people check out this weekend. One of the titles is technically a Christmas game, so it’s fitting to play this time of year, while my other recommendations are good options if you’re looking for something to play with others. Forspoken Square Enix’s Forspoken is a…
Standards and regulations regarding the sounds produced by vehicles are usually associated with annoyingly loud mufflers, honking, or even alarms. But when it comes to the sounds coming from a number of new 2025 Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles (EVs), General Motors believes the problem is that they’re actually not loud enough. GM is recalling 7,606 new Equinox EVs that may fail to meet minimum sound requirements for hybrids and EVs in the U.S. and Canada. General Motors is voluntarily recalling a specific population of 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EVs for certain pedestrian alert sound levels that may not be in compliance…
This month, Daniel Craig earned the best reviews of his career for Luca Guadagnino’s acclaimed drama Queer. But the veteran English actor has always had an interesting career, from his early roles in The Power of One and Tales from the Crypt to his more recent films like the Knives Out mysteries. A reconsideration of his filmography is, therefore, expected and warranted – not dismissing his revolutionary 15 years as James Bond but putting them in the context of the variegated career out of which they sprang. So prep those martinis (shaken or stirred) and sharpen those knives, as here…
We’re getting closer to Christmas, which means we’re going to start seeing a lot more markdowns on popular tech items like wireless earbuds and headphones. As a matter of fact, we came across this fantastic offer on some Beats buds earlier today: Right now, when you purchase the Beats PowerBeats Pro TWS Earbuds through Best Buy, you’ll only pay $130. At full price, this model sells for $200. We tested the Powerbeats Pro last fall, and reviewer Ryan Waniata praised the Pro for its top-shelf battery life, water resistance, and excellent sound quality. Why you should buy the Powerbeats Pro…
It’s that time of year again — time for Steam Replay. Similar to Xbox Year in Review and PlayStation Wrap-Up, Steam Replay 2024 looks back over your gameplay stats for the entire year, showing you what you’ve played, how long you’ve played it, and the feats you’ve accomplished along the way. As usual, Steam Replay runs through the end of the year, so if you want to view your Replay and unlock the exclusive Steam Replay 2024 badge, you’ll need to sign in soon. Thankfully, you can save your Steam Replay to your profile as a featured showcase, as well…
Threads is introducing a new way to reshare photos and videos on its social network. Instead of quote posting the original post and then adding commentary, Threads users will instead be able to click a new option, “Use Media,” allowing them to just reshare the photo or video directly to a new post where they can add their own text. The image or video will still be credited to the original poster, however. The feature was announced on Wednesday by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post on Threads. He noted that the new option would be a “quick, easy…
GPS tracking firm Hapn is exposing the names of thousands of its customers due to a website bug, The Tech Spot has learned. A security researcher alerted The Tech Spot in late November to customer names and affiliations — such as the name of their workplace — spilling from one of Hapn’s servers, which The Tech Spot has seen. Hapn, formerly known as Spytec, is a tracking company that allows users to remotely monitor the real-time location of internet-enabled tracking devices, which can be attached to vehicles or other equipment. The company also sells GPS trackers to consumers under its…
Successful tech companies follow a typical pattern: from product to platform where other startups build businesses on top of theirs. To spur that, they often launch a fund. Fast-growing social media site Bluesky, which now claims 25 million users, is on that path. On Wednesday it announced a new fund, with an initial $1 million warchest, run by open source and Python big wig Peter Wang. Bluesky, the decentralized social app from Jack Dorsey (though Dorsey left the Bluesky board in May), was launched five years ago and has really taken off as an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. The…
