Tesla has revealed an app designed for the Apple Watch and says it should be live by next week. The Tesla app for the Apple Watch will do much of what the smartphone app does – it doubles as a key, can open up the trunk or the frunk, activate climate control, and show battery charge level. Tesla announced the app as part of a large swath of updates; we counted 18 large updates and eight minor updates. They include the ability to watch Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips directly from the Tesla smartphone app and save them to your…
The Browser Company, the company behind Arc Browser for both desktop and mobile, teased its new web browser Monday called Dia—and this time, it focuses on AI tools. In the last few years, the startup launched Arc on Mac and Windows and Arc Search on iOS and Android, but the company is beginning work on a new product with a broader appeal. The browser is set to launch in early 2025. The startup has launched a new website that shows a video about the browser and lists different open roles in the company. “AI won’t exist as an app. Or…
Brain rot’ wins as Oxford’s word of the year, capturing the collective sentiment of a society increasingly overwhelmed by information overload and digital distractions. This phrase reflects the growing awareness of mental fatigue and the challenges of maintaining focus in an age dominated by constant connectivity. According to Oxford University Press, which publishes the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the term ‘brain rot’ is defined as the “supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state” as it relates to overdosing on online content without much of a narrative — like TikTok videos. Brain rot is also the outfit’s so-called word…
Companies often struggle with how to respond to cybersecurity incidents. According to one recent poll, only three out of five organizations have an incident response plan in place, and only around a third do regular drills to ensure that their plans remain effective. The consequences of poor incident response are costly. The International Monetary Fund estimates that cyberattacks will cost the world more than $23 trillion by 2027, up from roughly $8.4 trillion in 2022. It’s against this backdrop that Amazon sensed an opportunity. Today, Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing division, launched AWS Security Incident Response, a…
Slowly but surely, Amazon’s AWS cloud computing unit has become a major player in the call/contact center space with its Amazon Connect cloud-based (and AI-centric) contact center service, which launched back in 2017. Today, companies like Air Canada, Dish Network and U.S. Bank use the platform for their customer service needs. At its annual re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, the company has now announced a number of updates to Connect which, unsurprisingly, focus on AI, powered by the Amazon Q platform. “When we first came out, we were really a voice only solution that focused heavily on bringing AI to…
A new app called Death Clock predicts the date of its users’ deaths and offers tips on how to push that date back. The Tech Spot wrote about an iPod Death Clock app way back in 2006—but developer Brett Franson told Bloomberg that with an AI trained on more than 1,200 life expectancy studies, his app offers a “pretty significant” improvement on standard life tables. Naturally, I had to try it myself. The questionnaire started with basics like age and gender but also included more detailed questions about family history, mental health, and chronic conditions. Finally, it predicted that I’ll…
This year’s Black Friday deals are far from over, even with the event behind us. For Apple fans who want to take advantage of the shopping event to buy a MacBook, there’s an offer from Best Buy that you shouldn’t miss. The 256GB model of the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air M3 is on sale with a $250 discount that slashes its price from $1,099 to $849, but probably not for long, as Black Friday MacBook deals will be gone soon. You’re going to have to be quick to add it to your cart, though, because this rare 22% discount won’t…
Next time you rent a car, it could be delivered by a driver sitting miles away. Vay, a car rental service, is trialing a technology in Las Vegas where its vehicles are ferried to customers by remote teledrivers – and the tech could be coming to Europe soon, too. Using the Vay app, you can summon a vehicle to rent by the minute. Drop a pin and your car will arrive driverless, ready for you to use for as long as you need. The system isn’t reliant on self-driving technology, though: Vay’s fleet is operated from afar by a team…
Writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” When we look at our lives, I’m sure we can all think of goals we’ve had that have gone unrealized. It might be related to education, work, relationships, or health, but one question is worth considering: “Did you make a plan?” Benjamin Franklin put it this way: “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” I’m now approaching 40 years old and I’m a little bit tired of reaching for goals yet so often coming up short. With new year’s resolutions soon to be…
