Anker has unveiled a robot lawn mower at IFA 2026 designed to tackle one of the biggest remaining problems with robotic lawn care: grass left behind along the edges of a yard.

The eufy Robot Lawn Mower S2 Max features an extendable trimming arm that can reach beyond the mower’s main body, allowing it to cut grass closer to driveways, flower beds and other boundaries. The goal is to reduce the need for a separate string trimmer after the robotic mower has finished its job.

An extendable arm tackles the edges

Robot lawn mowers have become increasingly capable at navigation and autonomous mowing, but edges have remained a difficult problem. The wheels and body of a mower typically cannot get close enough to walls or borders without risking contact.

The S2 Max approaches the problem with an integrated extendable cutting arm. When the robot reaches an edge, the mechanism can extend outward to trim grass closer to the boundary.

That puts the mower among a growing group of robotic lawn-care products designed to reduce not only the amount of mowing owners have to do, but also the manual finishing work that usually follows.

It can navigate without boundary wires

Navigation is another major part of the S2 Max. The mower uses vSLAM and built-in cameras to create a 3D map of the yard, eliminating the need for traditional boundary wires or an RTK base station.

According to Anker, the S2 Max can map and mow areas of up to 3.7 acres, while handling slopes of up to 80 percent, or roughly 38 degrees.

The mower also uses all-wheel drive, helping it navigate more demanding terrain and steep sections of a yard.

The industry is turning its attention to lawn edges

Anker is not alone in trying to solve the edge-trimming problem. At IFA 2026, Mammotion also introduced the Luba 4 AWD with an edge-cutting attachment, while other robotic mower makers are increasingly adding similar features.

The Luba 4 AWD combines cameras, 360-degree LiDAR and RTK for navigation. Depending on the version, it can handle lawns ranging from 0.75 to 3 acres, although the largest model does not support the edge-trimming attachment.

The trend suggests that robotic lawn mowers are evolving beyond machines that simply cut grass. Manufacturers are increasingly trying to automate almost every routine part of lawn maintenance.

It will not be cheap

The eufy Robot Lawn Mower S2 Max is expected to launch in May 2027 for €3,999. Anker has not yet announced US pricing or availability.

That places the S2 Max firmly in the premium segment, but the company is combining several functions into one system: autonomous navigation, large-area mowing, steep-terrain capability and edge trimming.

If the technology performs as promised, the biggest improvement may not be the mowing itself. It could be the ability to finish the job without the owner having to follow behind with a separate trimmer.
