Qualcomm revealed the first details about the Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 processor with Oryon v3 cores at the Qualcomm Investor Day event.
In a significant announcement during Qualcomm Investor Day, the company presented the first information about the upcoming Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 processor, which will incorporate the new Oryon v3 cores. As mentioned at the event, Qualcomm’s Alex Katouzian presented the advancements the company has achieved with the Oryon architecture.
Based on the presentation, the Oryon v3 cores are still in the development stage, with the company promising better performance per watt compared to the v2 cores. It is worth noting that the Oryon v2 cores are already being used in the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Elite for smartphones, with no plans from the company to bring them to Windows PC solutions.
The official announcement of the Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 is expected to take place at the next Snapdragon Summit, which will be held in October 2025. A significant difference compared to the previous generation is that the time period between the announcement and the release of the devices will be significantly shorter, not 8 months as it was with the first Snapdragon X Elite systems.
The market for laptop processors is becoming increasingly competitive, with Intel responding with the Core Ultra Series 2 lineup, also known as Lunar Lake. Qualcomm seems to be aiming to strengthen its position in the PC market with the new generation of processors. Reports indicate that the first devices with the new processor are expected to be announced by the CES exhibition in January 2025 at the latest, marking a new era in the competition for laptop processors.
