The Xiaomi YU7 GT is about to be launched and has become the fastest production SUV in the world, after it passed the Nürburgring and clocked 7:34:931. At the wheel was Xiaomi’s chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan.
The record until now was held by the Audi RS Q8 Performance with a time of 7:36.698, while before its competitor, the Xiaomi YU7 GT, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT was second, with a time of 7:38.925. Now the Xiaomi car, which has won in all vehicle categories, has climbed to the top on the Nürburgring track.
Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, posted about the YU7 GT’s achievement, praising the vehicle’s design by the company’s engineers. He emphasized that the higher center of gravity of SUVs causes worse cornering grip and therefore it is difficult for an SUV to achieve good times on the track. Here, of course, Jun is saying something that is known, but too many ignore and prefer SUVs because they say they are safer. This is not true of course, since they always have worse grip.
Xiaomi YU7 GT

Xiaomi will fully reveal the YU7 GT on May 21, but the company has already revealed that it has a dual-motor system that delivers 738kW or 990 horsepower. We know that the vehicle will have carbon ceramic disc brakes, created jointly by Chinese and European experts, as part of a collaboration. The vehicle has a top speed of 300 km/h and a range of 705 km in CLTC test conditions, which are a little more optimistic than real-world use.
The Xiaomi YU7 GT will come with a price tag of around 400,000 yuan, or about €50,200 at the current exchange rate. The simple YU7 is already on the market and has a much lower price of €31,800.
When Xiaomi arrives in Europe, it is very likely to sweep in sales. You only have to get into the car once to win you over with its luxury, while its performance will not leave anyone complaining. Let alone the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, with 1,548 horsepower.
Forget all the things that slow SUVs. Xiaomi has just beaten the automotive industry by breaking the world record on the legendary German track!
The numbers speak for themselves:
Time: 7:34.931 (Leaving behind the Audi RS Q8 Performance and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT).
Power: 990 hp (dual-motor system).
Top speed: 300 km/h.
Range: 705 km (CLTC).
Why is this record so important?
As Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun pointed out, SUVs face a big challenge: a high center of gravity. This usually means lower cornering stability. But Xiaomi engineers, through a Chinese-European collaboration, have created a technological “repentance” with carbon-ceramic brakes that defy the laws of physics.
Safety vs. stability:
Many people choose SUVs thinking they are safer due to their size, but the truth is that handling is often their weak point. Xiaomi seems to have solved this equation!
