Garmin has officially unveiled its next generation of premium outdoor smartwatches, the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro, bringing brighter displays, faster navigation, improved training tools and a major design upgrade to the company’s flagship adventure lineup.
For the first time in the fēnix family, the Pro model features a titanium case, while selected versions add LTE and satellite connectivity for communication directly from the wrist.
The launch arrives as competition in the premium smartwatch market continues to intensify.
Apple and Samsung are pushing further into fitness and outdoor features, while Garmin remains focused on athletes, runners, hikers, climbers and users who need their watch to work far beyond the city.
But the fēnix 9 is more than a simple specification upgrade.
Garmin has changed several of the most important parts of the experience.
An AMOLED Display That Can Reach 3,000 Nits
One of the biggest improvements is the display.
The new fēnix 9 lineup introduces significantly brighter AMOLED screens, while the Pro models can reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness.

Garmin Epic Turns Activities Into Stories

Another interesting new feature is Garmin Epic.
Instead of treating every workout as a completely separate activity, Garmin Epic can combine multiple activities into a single story inside Garmin Connect.
That could be particularly useful during multi-day adventures.
A long trip might involve hiking, cycling, running and other activities.
Rather than looking at dozens of separate recordings, users can see the broader adventure as one connected experience.
It reflects a broader change in fitness technology.
The question is no longer simply:

Garmin has also upgraded the navigation system.

Garmin is not trying to compete with budget smartwatches.
The target audience is people who treat their smartwatch as serious sports and outdoor equipment.

Is it worth upgrading?
For a fēnix 8 owner, the answer is not automatically yes.
The previous generation remains highly capable.
But users who want a brighter display, faster maps, titanium construction, satellite communication and the newest training features have considerably more reasons to upgrade.
